MP Seng Han Thong not racist, says Shanmugam

_Minister K. Shanmugam on Saturday came out to say that Member of Parliament Seng Han Thong 'is not a racist.'

It is unfair to label him as such, based on comments which have been wrongly attributed to him, the Law and Foreign Affairs Minister said at a press conference on Saturday evening.

'If he had indeed made the comments which have been attributed to him, then I would have come out to say that that is completely unacceptable,' he said.

But he pointed out that Mr Seng's comment on Blog TV which has caused much controversy, was in fact a reference to an SMRT officer's statement on train drivers' lack of proficiency in English. Mr Seng had cited the SMRT officer's remark in order to rebut it.
