SINGAPORE: Coordinating chairman of the PAP town councils, Dr Teo Ho Pin, has responded to the latest statement from the Workers' Party (WP) on town council management.

In a statement on late Thursday evening, Dr Teo asked about the managing agent unit rate for Aljunied-Hougang Town Council. He said that based on WP's calculations, the rate in 2012 was S$7.58. This is 50 per cent higher than the rate of Tampines Town Council, which is of similar size.

And he noted, that based on staggered pricing, the rate would be even higher in the following years.

His estimation is that by 2014, the Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council managing rate will be about S$8.50, or 70 per cent higher than Tampines TC's rate.

Dr Teo said, he had asked serious questions about the financial probity of the Aljunied-Hougang Town Council, but these had not been answered.

They include questions about why the WP awarded multi-million dollar contracts to its close associates and supporters, and whether the secretary and deputy secretary/general manager of the town council, who are also owners of FM Solutions and Services, are paid twice.

Dr Teo said that when questions were raised about AIM, he gave a full explanation and answered all questions by the MND review team.

He asked why Ms Sylvia Lim, chairman of the Workers' Party, is reluctant to answer the questions he has raised.
