Malaysian Woo Mui Mee, who was charged last week for hurting her landlord William Wong at Yishun Ring Road with a paper cutter that eventually led to his death, has been remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for two weeks for psychiatric observation.

On Monday (Nov 30), Woo's charges were revised to voluntarily causing grievous hurt, which carries a maximum punishment of life imprisonment, or 15 years in jail and a fine. The 34-year-old was previously facing seven years' jail and a fine in the earlier charge of voluntarily causing hurt.

Mr Wong, a 76-year-old retiree, was found lying motionless in a second-floor unit at Block 114 Yishun Ring Road on Saturday at 10pm. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at 11.38pm, after SCDF officers forced their way into the flat.

Woo's next hearing has been scheduled for Dec 14.
