A Traffic Police (TP) officer was killed after he was hit by a van along Serangoon Road on Thursday morning (June 1).

Staff Sergeant Nadzrie Bin Matin, 29, was performing traffic patrol duties at the time of the incident, at around 10.40am. He was sent to the Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.

Commissioner of Police Hoong Wee Teck said SSg Nadzrie was a "dedicated and well-liked officer".

“I am deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Staff Sergeant Nadzrie... We will do everything possible to assist his family during this difficult period," he said, expressing his deepest condolences to the family.

Photos and videos posted on social media had showed SSg Nadzrie laying motionless in a pool of blood on a grass patch. A wrecked TP bike was also seen nearby, while bystanders, including a few who appeared to be medical staff, were seen attempting to provide aid to the officer.

A slightly-damaged black van was also seen parked in the middle of the road near the incident. The police said the 52-year-old driver of the vehicle has been arrested for a negligent act causing death.

The police is also appealing to members of the public not to circulate videos or images of the deceased out of respect for his family.

Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
