It has been open for barely six months, but Resort World Sentosa’s SEA Aquarium at Marine Life Park has already claimed two Guinness World Records.
As of 8 April, it is officially the world’s largest aquarium, holding 42.8 million litres of water – or the volumetric size of more than 17 Olympic-size swimming pools.
Time magazine reported that the record for the largest aquarium was previously held by Georgia Aquarium, which contains more than 36 million litres of water.
The Singapore aquarium also claimed another world record for the window of its Open Ocean Habitat tank – the attraction’s central feature. Measuring 36m by 8.3m, the viewing display is the largest single acrylic panel in the world.
The plastic window, which was created on the site in a special room, weighs more than 250,000kg and is as big as two rows of three double-decker buses stacked on top of one another.
