A Singaporean has reportedly been found dead in a hotel room in Batam, Riau islands province, in Indonesia on Tuesday (Sep 6).

According to local media reports, the body of 67-year-old Mohamed Isa bin Omar was found by employees of the Lai Lai Hotel after a cleaner reported a foul odour from his room on the fourth floor.

The owner of the hotel, Armin Wijaya, then reported the suspicious incident to the police.

"We decided to break open his room with police in the afternoon. He was dead when we found him and part of his body had been rotting,” receptionist Lindawati told the Jakarta Post.

Batu Ampar Police's crime investigations unit chief Adj. Comr. Kahardani said two machetes were found in the room.

The cause of the victim’s death has not been determined yet. Police are still investigating the case.
