A business tycoon in Jinjiang city, Fujian province, spent more than 250 million yuan ($40 million) to marry off his daughter.
Wu Jinbiao (吴金裱), chairman of Billion Industrial Holdings Ltd, prepared a sky-high priced dowry that included 100 million yuan in cash, 100 million yuan in shares, a villa worth more than 40 million yuan and two luxury sedans to the newlywed couple, his precious Wu Shaoming (吴少铭) and son-in-law Huang Shaorong (黄少融).
A super wedding banquet was held that cost 8 million yuan. More than 3,000 guests were invited to enjoy high-end cuisine that ranged from bird’s nest to shark’s fin and abalone.
Wu has broke the city’s dowry record, previously held by the Xu family.
When the niece of Hengan Group’s CEO Xu Lianjie (许连捷) was married in November last year, the dowry was as high as 140 million yuan.
Hence, “Instead of robbing banks, one would be much better off marrying a Jinjiang bride,” has become the latest popular motto circulating on the Internet.
