The Government has appointed Ms Kok Li Peng as the Republic's Ambassador to the Philippines, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) announced on Friday (Mar 20).

The previous Ambassador, Mr V P Hirubalan, vacated the post in February when he was appointed Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Political-Security Community.

Ms Kok will assume her post on Mar 30. The career diplomat, who joined the MFA in 1995, was the Director-General of the ASEAN Directorate within the ministry from March 2012 to January this year, according to the MFA press release.

Prior to that, she was the Deputy Permanent Representative in the Permanent Mission of Singapore to the United Nations in New York from September 2008 to January 2012.

The Singapore Embassy in the Philippines was set up in 1973. It is currently located at No 505, Rizal Drive, Bonifacio Global City, 1634 Taguig City, Metro Manila, according to the MFA website.
