Some 50 residents from the Marsiling community came together for a good cause. In just five days, the volunteers collected and packed almost 950 boxes of items to send to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.

The overwhelming support came from all levels of the Marsiling community -- grassroots leaders, business communities and the residents.

Almost 7,500 kilogrammes of clothing, toiletries and dried food were donated, and they are scheduled to arrive in the Philippines on Monday.

Rajandara Prasad S, a volunteer and Marsiling resident, said: "We can't be there to do something, but at least from here we can do something to make the people there be happy."

Hawazi Daipi, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education and Manpower, said: "It shows how big our heart is, and how much we feel for the people of our neighbouring country."
