Man charged for hacking into security CCTV cameras

A 58-year-old man was charged on Tuesday (Apr 12) for hacking into a system of CCTV cameras deployed for security coverage during last year’s 28th SEA Games.

Tan Khoon Guan faces 53 charges under the Computer Misuse and Cyber Security Act, for gaining unauthorised access to CCTV camera settings, and modifying these settings without authorisation.

Tan hacked into the system on Jun 15 and 16 last year, ahead of and during the closing ceremony of the Games. He is expected to plead guilty on Apr 29 to 20 charges.

For hacking into the CCTV network, Tan faces up to two years in jail and/or a fine of up to S$5,000. As for modifying the settings without authority, Tan could be jailed up to three years and/or fined up to S$10,000.
