A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly posting a bomb hoax message online, said the police on Thursday (Jan 21).

Police said they received a report on Jan 14 regarding an online post threatening to bomb City Hall.

Officers then worked to establish the person's identity before arresting the man, they added.

It is believed the suspect had posted the comments as a hoax, and investigations are ongoing, police added.

Anyone convicted for an offence of a Breach of the Prohibition Against False Threats of Terrorist Acts may be liable to a fine of up to S$100,000, jailed up to five years, or both.

"The police take a serious view against such irresponsible behaviour which creates unnecessary public alarm," it said.
