A 23-year-old man has been arrested by the police over a slashing incident that took place at Orchard Plaza on Sunday (Nov 27). The victim, a 28-year-old man, sustained multiple injuries and was sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the scene at 150 Orchard Road at 5.50am. The spokesman said the victim was drowsy when the ambulance arrived at the scene.
TODAY understands the 28-year-old who was injured is a Singaporean.
The police has classified the case as “voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous means”, and investigations are ongoing.
Photos of the victim covered in blood, lying unconscious on the floor of the shopping centre went viral with more than 6,700 shares after it was posted on Facebook page Best Viral Videos around Monday midnight.
Over 600 comments were received, with many speculating that it took place outside Thai disco Starz on the fourth floor. The club’s management was prompted to respond on Facebook that those involved in the slashing case were “customers of the Thai food café” and are not linked to the club.
While it is uncertain why the incident took place, Madam Ang, owner of Flowers Flowers, speculated it might be over a girl.
The florist in her 50s, whose shop is just three shop fronts down from the club, has had the glass of her shop front shattered four times in her nine years operating at the mall. As she does not operate on Sunday, she found out about the incident only on Monday.
But she said: “I won’t be surprised if they were fighting over a girl. Mostly they fight for girls here. Previously, when they hit my glass, it was also to fight over a girl."
