ITE College East has suspended a student seen kicking and punching another in a video that has gone viral on social media.

When approached on Thursday (Feb 16), the school confirmed the incident and said the assault took place in one of its toilets last Wednesday (Feb 8).

The police also confirmed that a report has been lodged and investigations are ongoing.

"ITE takes a serious view of the matter, and does not condone such acts. ITE College East will cooperate with police investigations," the school's principal Dr Yek Tiew Ming said in a statement.

The video, posted by Facebook user Ms Soniya Raj at about 10am on Thursday, has garnered close to 14,000 shares and 217,000 views (as at 1.50pm on Thursday afternoon).

The 75-second clip showed a student, clad in black, kicking and raining blows on a smaller-built student in a corner of the toilet.

A by-stander watching the assault could be heard laughing around the 15-second mark of the video. The clip showed the assailant slapping the victim before walking off with a group of friends at the end of the video.

“The assailant has been suspended," said Dr Yek. "The victim has consulted a doctor, and we are rendering our assistance to him.”
