American singer Ariana Grande has reacted on Twitter to the explosion at the Manchester Arena on Monday (May 22).Grande tweeted on Tuesday (May 23) that she is “broken”.

“From the bottom of my heart, I am so sorry,” she wrote. “I don’t have words.”

A representative for the star had confirmed on Monday that she was “okay”, following the explosion.

Scooter Braun, Ariana Grande's longtime manager, also posted a statement addressing the Manchester, England attacks which took place as the singer's concert was ending. "Tonight, our hearts are broken," Braun wrote. "Words cannot express our sorrow for the victims and families harmed in this senseless attack."

Braun has managed Grande since 2013, when the actress-turned-singer was just graduating the Nickelodeon show Victorious, with Braun playing an A&R role on songs from the albums Yours Truly, My Everything, and Dangerous Woman. Grande's 2014 hit Problem reached No 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

At least 22 people were killed and more than 50 were injured following the 23-year-old’s concert at the Arena, which has a capacity for 21,000 people. The singer had been performing to an audience that included many children.

A video posted on Twitter showed fans, many of them young, screaming and running from the venue. Dozens of parents frantically searched for their children, posting photos and pleading for information on social media.

“We were making our way out and when we were right by the door there was a massive explosion and everybody was screaming,” concert-goer Catherine Macfarlane told Reuters.

“It was a huge explosion — you could feel it in your chest. It was chaotic. Everybody was running and screaming and just trying to get out.”

Musicians and actors alike took to Twitter to offer condolences after fatalities and injuries were reported following the incident.

Singer Katy Perry tweeted that she is “praying for everyone at Ariana Grande’s show”.

Cher reflected on her personal affiliation with the city, writing: “My prayers go out to the people of Manchester ... had special times there from youth and beyond.”

And singer and actress Demi Lovato got emotional sharing that she is “tearing up imagining innocent concertgoers losing their lives. Praying for everyone and all #Arianators”.
