Trials for the heterogeneous network (HetNet) at Jurong Lake District will be rolled out starting the third quarter of this year, and all three telcos and internet service provider MyRepublic will be participating in the first phase, said the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) on Wednesday (Apr 22).
The HetNet trials is meant to validate advance telecommunication technologies and the network's capabilities in providing "pervasive, seamless high-speed internet access", IDA said. Singtel, StarHub and M1 are some of the companies partnering the agency in this phase of the trials, it added.
The trials will be carried out in locations such as lifts, pedestrian walkways, bus interchange, and the MRT station. The trial networks are expected to be rolled out from Q3 2015, with the completion targeted for the end of 2015, according to the press release.
