A door fault at Dhoby Ghaut MRT station today (Oct 15) caused a delay for commuters on the North-South Line.SMRT issued an advisory at about 5:15pm stating an additional 20 minutes of travelling time between Marina Bay and Newton stations.

The transport operator wrote on its Facebook page: “Our engineers are rectifying a door fault at Dhoby Ghaut station. Trains will be travelling at slower speeds in and out of Dhoby Ghaut. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

A Channel NewsAsia producer on the scene said almost all doors on both sides of the platform were not operating normally, and that commuters had to prise open the platform doors to exit.

By 5:35pm, SMRT tweeted that the fault had been resolved, but that commuters could expect additional five minutes travelling time from Newton to Marina Bay. It announced 15 minutes later that train services were back to normal.

The producer saw about 10 to 15 SMRT staff and officers from the Public Transport Security Command on the scene. She said the station was relatively empty, hence there was little drama. At least one affected commuter made light of the incident, tweeting that SMRT had a new “invisible door”. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
