A community-led Lifelong Learning Council has been set up by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA), to get more Singaporeans to view learning as a continuous journey over their lifetimes.This was announced by Senior Minister of State for Manpower Amy Khor at WDA's pop-up Learning Cafe at Jurong Point on Thursday (Oct 16). The council will work closely with the WDA to spread the message of lifelong learning through various platforms.
Besides providing counselling, guidance and recommendations for Singaporeans, it will also facilitate partnerships and networking opportunities to promote learning.
It will be chaired by Mr Tan Kay Yong, the former vice-president at GlaxoSmithKline, and comprise 14 others from a variety of backgrounds, including the media, education and corporate sectors. Appointed by the Manpower Ministry, the Lifelong Learning Council will be convened on a two-year term effective Thursday.
