A contractor suffered a burn injury on his left hand while carrying out maintenance works at Sembawang MRT station early on Thursday morning (May 26).
In response to media queries, SMRT Vice President for Corporate Information and Communications Patrick Nathan said the incident occurred at 1.50am while the contractor was carrying out work on the third rail at the MRT station.
The third rail supplies electrical power to trains.
"The necessary approval was given to access the track for the maintenance works," Mr Nathan said. "The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to SMRT's call for assistance."
SCDF said it received a call for assistance at Sembawang MRT at about 1.50am and despatched a fire engine and an ambulance. A man in his 20s was conveyed conscious to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, it added.
SMRT said investigations are ongoing.
