Residents of Parkstone Drive, Goodman Road and Crescent Road have been dealing with a serious case of vandalism in the past couple of weeks by someone who has a particular aversion to the Singapore flag.

Hung by the dozens outside residential estates in Tanjong Katong for the National Day celebrations, the flags were apparently damaged in various manners — thrown in dustbins, drains or even tucked away somewhere, according to TODAY.

Even emblems of vehicles parked along the road weren't spared from the vandalism.

A resident's CCTV recording revealed that a figure dressed in black was removing flags in the area in the wee hours of the morning. The police have assured that the suspect — a 17-year-old — has been arrested.

He was nabbed on Aug 14 after officers from Bedok Division managed established his identity through ground enquiries.

Investigations are ongoing. Should he be convicted, the suspect will be imprisoned for up to three years or fined up to $2,000 and receive up to eight strokes of the cane.
