A 38-year-old man has been arrested for suspected involvement in a case of robbery with hurt along Sophia Road.
In a news release on Wednesday (Jun 8), police said a 21-year-old woman lodged a report at about 3am that she was robbed. She said a man who was following her when she was walking home slapped and punched her, then snatched her clutch bag.
A member of the public who heard her cries for help gave chase and managed to detain the suspect along Sophia Road.
After being alerted to the case, police officers arrived at the scene shortly and arrested the suspect. The victim’s bag and belongings were also recovered.
The suspect will be charged in court on Wednesday. If found guilty, he could spend up to 20 years in jail and faces at least 12 strokes of the cane.
