It was revealed that Taiwanese actress Shu Qi is currently filming her new movie, "The Assassin".
According to Popular Asians, directed by Hou Hsiao Hsien, an award-winning director famed for "Cafe Lumiere", "The Assassin" is an upcoming martial arts film that also stars Chang Chen, Ethan Ruan and Japan's Satoshi Tsumabuki.
With a budget of CNY 420 million (app. USD 67,431,000), the film is an adaptation of a short story from the Tang Dynasty, revolving around a young girl named Nie Yin Niang (Shu Qi), who was trained by a Taoist nun to become an assassin when she grows up.
Director Hou revealed that he first conceptualised the idea seven years ago with the hopes that Taiwanese audiences will have a newfound appreciation for martial arts films. Shooting has commenced in September in several locations around China, Taiwan and Japan.
No definite date has been set for its release yet.
