Matt Damon says he pulled out of directing movie The Promised Land as he couldn't be away from his children.
Matt, 40, who co-wrote and starred in the gritty film about the oil industry, said directing it as well was one step too far - and he quit just two weeks before work was due to start.
'I had been away from my kids, and then I got back and had to do a really intense week or two of press for We Bought A Zoo,' he says to Collider.com.
'On December 15th, my last thing was The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and I finished it and got home and my year was over.
'I looked at the calendar and realised that, to get the movie out, I had to go into pre-production on January 2nd .
'I just couldn't leave the kids again.'
Matt has Isabella, six, Gia, four, Stella, two, and is stepfather to Alexia, wife Luciana Bozán Barroso's daughter from a previous relationship.
