Jolin Tsai’s performance at the CCTV Mid-Autumn Gala Festival on 30 September was almost ruined after microphone problems persisted for nearly half a minute after she took the stage. Despite the sound malfunctions, audiences praised Jolin’s polished performance and professionalism in the face of disaster.
It is reported that as Jolin Tsai is currently in the midst of promotional activities for her new album MUSE, as she had taken a cut in commercial earnings to perform at the Festival Gala. One of the most memorable performances of the night was her medley of Da Yi Shu Jia, Love You and Wu Niang.
Sharp-eared fans noticed the problems with her microphone and commented that “though she was trying hard to be heard, we could only hear the music and not her voice.”
Online comments expressed approval for Jolin’s maturity on stage. One fan wrote, “Jolin has very high EQ and completed her performance coolly. I really admire the professionalism of the Taiwanese artistes, for insisting they sing ‘live’ regardless of the sound system’s quality.”
However, Jolin’s segment was cut during the repeat telecast of the Gala Festival, incurring the wrath of the fans online.
Jolin’s manager Wang Yong Liang encouraged fans to be calm, saying, “It’s just a pity that the complete performance was not shown to the audience.”
