Last Thursday, Taiwanese actor James Wen finally announced via his manager that his long-time girlfriend Xiao Jun gave birth to their baby girl who weighed 3kg on Apr 12. At an event yesterday, the first-time dad, who previously said that the couple has no plans to tie the knot, let on that many netizens have criticised him for being “irresponsible”.
In response to the backlash, James claimed that Xiao Jun is “very angry” and has plans to release a statement to clarify. The Fierce Wife star emphasised that each family has their own lifestyle and said, “How would I be together with the same person for nearly 20 years if I am irresponsible?”
“Please take a look at your own love affairs before judging me. How many people can as faithful as me?” he added, saying that both their parents did not insist that the couple get married as they are very open-minded.
When asked on his marriage plans, James answered that he is “waiting for her to pop the question”, quickly stating that Xiao Jun is not overly concerned about the issue when he brought up the topic previously.
Singing praises of his girlfriend for her down-to-earth personality, the actor said, “She doesn’t ask for much. Everyone around me gives a thumbs up when talking about her.”
Further pressed by the reporters on his reasons for delaying the marriage even after their first child is born, the actor gave another shocking reply, saying, “Can’t I adopt her?”
While speaking to the media about his newborn daughter, fondly known as “Little Sunny Day”, James mentioned that her fleshy nose resembles his. The proud daddy also explained the nickname by saying that the couple hopes for her to be positive and bright.
Sharing on his experience accompanying his girlfriend throughout the delivery process, James said that Xiao Jun had to endure 10 hours of labour contractions before giving birth naturally.
“My tears couldn’t stop flowing the moment I heard the baby’s cries,” he recalled.
The actor was earlier said to have hidden the news, fearing that it might ruin his ‘idol image’. The 35-year-old, however, refuted the claims yesterday and maintained that he did not announce the good news because of his girlfriend’s wish to remain low profile about their personal life.
