Singer David Tao broke down in tears when he attended his father, veteran Taiwanese comedian Tao Dawei’s cremation ceremony in the wee hours of Saturday morning. He was accompanied by his mother Wang Furong and Sun Yue, his father’s friend. Seventy-year old Tao Dawei died of cancer last Wednesday.
The tired-looking singer was spotted with a mask around 6am last Saturday at the National Taiwan University Hospital. He was there to bring his father’s body to the crematorium with the help of the staff in the hospital.
David held on to his mother’s hands and both broke down in tears after seeing their loved one being pushed into the burning cremation machine.
After the ceremony, David left but returned shortly to the crematorium. The atmosphere was gloomy and serious while he walked out to his car, holding onto his father’s cinerary urn. Sun Yue, Tao Dawei’s good friend was also spotted following behind the attendees while chanting Buddhist verses to bless his good friend.
Friends Song, originally sung by Tao Dawei and Sun Yue, will also be sung at his memorial on Sept 21 at Muzha Ling Liang Church Hill.
